On Sunday, June 1, 2025, the Central North Regional Police Command in Ghana arrested a 35-year-old Burkinabe national, Zongo Jeon-Baptiste, in Assin Fosu on charges of human trafficking and defrauding by false pretense.
The arrest followed a tip-off that led to the rescue of seven foreign nationals’ two women and five men from Mali, Togo, Côte d’Ivoire, and Burkina Faso.
The victims were found confined in a residential property in the Pump-Side area of Assin Fosu.
According to police investigations, the victims were lured into Ghana with promises of lucrative employment opportunities linked to QNET, an international digital marketing company.
However, upon arrival, they were held under suspicious and restrictive conditions.
The victims have since been released and are assisting authorities with ongoing investigations aimed at dismantling the trafficking network.
This incident highlights a growing pattern in the region, where individuals from West African countries are deceived with enticing job offers, only to be exploited upon arrival.
The Central North Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying surveillance and enforcement efforts to combat human trafficking in the area.
